Raw and Home Prepared Diets
Before the advent of commercially prepared and packaged food, people fed their pets table scraps, which included a wide variety of raw and cooked foodstuffs. Most pets thrived and lived healthier lives than many pets do today. Many modern day ailments such as allergies, poor coat and skin problems, and even arthritis, can be greatly relieved by feeding a raw diet. This does not mean that your pet can just get a raw hamburger patty everyday and be healthy. Raw feeding takes knowledge and forethought to be optimal. Although it may not be appropriate for every pet, such as those undergoing immunosuppressive treatments for cancer, it can be life enhancing for the majority of our furry friends.
There are many approaches to feeding a raw, balanced diet to your dog or cat. You can choose to prepare each meal yourself or you can purchase frozen, nutritionally complete raw food from reputable companies. A raw food diet for dogs from Bravo can be purchased from our clinic. There is a wealth of information available on the web and in books about creating your own raw feeding plan. Before you begin, or even if you have been at it for years, take the time to visit the links below to learn more about home prepared diets. Remember, food is medicine.
Home Prepared Diets
Home prepared diets are those that are prepared by you, and not big pet food companies. You control the quality of the meat, vegetables, and nutritional supplements that your pets ingest. Home prepared includes foodstuffs that are cooked or raw. Diets can be tailored so that all ingredients are fully cooked, raw or a combination of both. Learning how to prepare a well balanced, home prepared diet requires some study. You must educate yourself via books, the web, and by consulting us to ensure that the diets will provide the appropriate nutrition. For more information:
